CONSIDER has an ICT project under way. There are ten computer centres which are presently not functioning fully.
They would like:
- Female volunteers who can teach young girls at these main centres for about two to three months.
- We also wish to initiate a hardware training progranne for poor students free of charge.
Volunteers should have appropriate IT skills.
Volunteers may also work on the logistics of the Disaster Resilient housing Project.
If sufficient funds are available for housing vounteers would be welcome to act as technical supervisors.
IT Teaching
You will be teaching MS Office to school students.
If you have a suitable background you may also conduct hardware training for professional students of Engineering and graduates.
The students
The students do not speak English but a translator will be provided.
Some of the students may have some previous IT experience but you should not assume this.
The computers
The majority of computers will use PIII or PIV with Windows 98 or XP.
Teaching
You will be expected to teach for two to four hours a day.
Other activities
You can visit other places of interest and also work with village communities, generating various aspects of life support systems. Further, you can also assist in other programmes of CONSIDER, e.g. data entry and compilation in the Office.
CONSIDER will make sure you are exposed to the local cultural activities such as musical nights, local fellowships, etc.
Location
CONSIDER is based in a small town called Bapatla in Guntur district of the state of Andhra Pradesh in India.
The town is 8 kms away from the beach on the of Bay of Bengal. This beach is a favourite tourist place for local people. The Government of Andhra Pradesh has developed a beach guest house/resort for the public where tourists can stay and enjoy the beach.
Bapatla town is called the Cambridge of Andhra Pradesh as it has many educational institutions. The Town is connected to the state highway network and the national railway line. From here you can easily reach the airports of Madras or Hyderabad.
The district headquarter is 50 kms away from the town. Coastal outreach communities are 3 kms to 60 kms away from the office of CONSIDER at Bapatla. Volunteers will stay in the town of Bapatla and go to villages to work with the people. If needed you may also be placed in ' sister concerns' such as English medium schools and orphanages in the town and elsewhere.
Youy can also use this as a base to visit a variety of historical places in south India.
